  1. I’m baffled as to why the instruction booklet goes to great trouble to warn you that the permanent adhesive disk is “extremely” difficult to remove. Following the instructions, I cleaned the dash, allowed it to dry, and firmly applied the mounting disk. After a minute or two, I attached my GPS and drove off. Not a mile later, the adhesive came undone as I made a moderate turn, and my GPS went tumbling to the floor. Subsequent attempts to secure the disk yielded similar results. All said, the adhesive has the approximate strength of a Post-It note.

If you ask me, you’re much better off taking your chances with the suction cup (which works well as long as the indoor/outdoor temperature remains relatively constant). Or you can head to the hardware store for a real adhesive and use that instead.

If my GPS unit breaks because Garmin’s lack of a working mounting solution caused the unit to hit the floor one time too many, I fully expect them to provide me with a new one. Hopefully it won’t come to that, as it’s a fantastic device, apart from these mounting woes.

My GPS really sticks to the windshield with this product.A much better way to mount the GPS then the dashboard way.

Buy the dash mount unit as this suction cup windsheild mount will freeze to your windsheild and you won’t be able to get it off after about a week. (no kidding)

I just bought the dash friction mount (with heavy nonskid beanbags) and it works great on a contoured dash. Worth ever penny of the $25. Buyer beware on this item… Garmin should re-design the rubber on this suction cup to be able to deal with high and low temperatures without damaging the cup!

I tried everything, permanent and temporary to get the base to stick. Nothing works.

I finally got a adhesive from Radio Shack and it is working fine.

The actual unit works great when the base is mounted.

I rated it 3 stars since the unit is functional but the adhesive is useless.

  5. Don’t waste your money if you live in a warm climate. The temporary only lasted about an hour, and I don’t want to put a permanent tape on my dash, and have it there when I trade in the car. And yes, I did clean the dash with alcohol per the instructions.
