Shopping recently for a pair of binoculars as a gift (all 8x42s), I tested approximately 2 dozen models between appx. $200 - $700, covering a dozen different major brands. I found a few that I would be quite happy with, but the standout was the Leupold Pinnacles. The selection process consisted of a close focus test, long-focus test with the emphasis on fine resolution, a side-by-side evaluation of brightness and edge-to-edge clarity, and an evaluation of build quality. As I worked through the models with my wife's assistance, we gradually worked down to 4 models, then 3, then 2, swapping models back and forth as we traded assessments. As you might suspect, differences between the last few were subtle, but what finally distinguished the Leupolds over the last close competitor was their ability to resolve fine detail at distance. These are bright, sharp binoculars with good ergonomics and at a very good price when compared to premium optics, against which they stack up quite well.

Highly recommended.

These binoculars have exceeded my expectations. They just feel like quality and are a well thought out design. I cannot think of any thing I would change. Image quality is excellent and they are easy to focus. Good value for the money.

These are the best (and highest priced) binoculars I have ever owned. They are light and very easy to hold. They focus rapidly and with minimum effort. They are the first binoculars I could use easily with my glasses because they have great eye relief. I plan to keep them a long time, and I can't imagine how buying Leica binoculars for about $1000 more could be that much better.
