  1. Disappointed says:

I bought a set of these earmuffs based on the description on the company website, which makes the following exaggerated claims:

    # Large ear cup designed for extreme noise environment. Maximum hearing protection

    # Great for range masters and NRA shooting instructors

    # Best firearms shooting protection in covered or indoor shooting ranges

    # Ideal for use with all handguns

BIG MISTAKE. As far as I’m concerned, the above performance claims are nothing but false and misleading advertising.

Once at the shooting range, the noise level inside the earcups was so loud I feared I would have hearing damage, and I left the range immediately. The electronics in this product do absolutely nothing to block ambient noise, and all you get is some amount of passive noise suppression, but it’s not nearly enough, especially from a premium-priced product like this. Wearing this product in close proximity to weapons being fired is inviting hearing damage, in my opinion, which is not scientific, but it’s not difficult to recognize loud noise.

Save your money and use it on the competition. This product is a waste of money.

  2. Cyclist says:

These are rated as 33 NRR, but I don’t think they seal out external sounds as well as some cheap muffs. Not comfortable at all after awhile — I think the cavity needs to be bigger (and I have normal sized ears). Also, the batteries and circuitry are outboard of the ear cavity making the things really wide; why not make the muff taller on top and thinner. The circuitry really does work to provide normal hearing and does a good job of clipping the bangs. It is just that on an indoor range, even if the speakers are turned off, the big guns are too loud. I can’t believe I spent this much without first trying them somewhere/somehow.

  3. As a professional musician, the last thing I can afford is the loss of my hearing. The challenge is great enough if work requirements place me by the DRUMS! And hunting with ear plugs for a musician leads to many lost opportunities due to the old phrase, ‘My plugs aren’t in!’ A friend of mine loaned me his Pro Ears one day on a hunt, and I was hooked. They do a great job at suppressing the percussive effects of a gun to a safe db level. I actually use one ear plug as insurance (gun side), turn up the volume, and never miss an opportunity. Be it the rustle of some bushes or the excitement of a bird dog, I’m ready to go…music to my ears! As with any electronic ear protection device, I always make sure my batteries are up to snuff-weak batteries will compromise even the most expensive devices out there.

  4. Gary L. Hess says:

Recently, I was able to demo one of the top-of-the-line Pro Ears models (comparable to the current Pro Mag Gold). I was skeptical, not because of the company, but because I am a vegetarian and do not hunt. I figured it was not an item for me. Well, we sometimes get wonderful surprises … even out of our ignorance. I live in an open “nature” area. It is great to listen to the wildlife in a normal audio experience but so much more great to be able to hear “close up and personal”. That’s just what I got with Pro Ears. The buzz of the hummingbirds was intense, until I made the necessary adjustments. Sweet! I’m no expert, but I really liked the sound. I own two companies and have a number of headsets and must admit that these are good headsets. Very good! Comfort? Well, I give them as good grades as I have to anyone else. I am very sensitive to temperature and I have some issues with any faux leather but I have to admit that these were very soft and comfortable and didn’t create any issues with me beyond what I normally have which is a little moisture after a while on a hot day. I sometimes listen to headphones for an extended period of time and these were very comfortable. They are on my “buy as soon as I can” list. I’m a bargain kind of guy and I was not ecstactic with the price. But the quality is great, I love the best-of-kind warranty and I’m sold. I’m in.

I bought a set of Pro Mag Gold’s a few months ago and love them. They

are very comfortable with leather ears seals-I like them more the vinyl

kind. When I go to the range I can hear everything that is being said

and my surroundings but the Pro Ears electronics compress all the loud

gunfire sounds, I still hear the gunfire but at a much lower level. My

old pair just clipped off and on off and on each time me or someone else

fired. I have even accidentally left them on after I left the range but

the automatic shut off feature saved the batteries. I think they work

great and they are made in the USA. My pair have a 5 year warranty too.

I called the factory to ask about an accessory item, the belt clip, and

they were really nice and helpful. I would give them 5 stars!
